Meade #884 Deluxe Field Tripod
micro adjustment kit
Meade #884 Deluxe Field Tripod
has no micro adjustment.
Meade #884 Deluxe
Field Tripod is designed to be use in two positions: Alt/Az position
and Polar home position. However, it is not easy to use this tripod
in either one of the positions precisely because there is no micro adjust
of any kind on this tripod. It is practically impossible to perform
a precision Polar alignment with the Meade #884 Deluxe Field Tripod
tripod. No precision adjustment, no precsion alignment.
Precision Polar alignment is now possible!
Install this Micro Adjustment Kit and you can have precision adjustment
in your Meade
#884 Deluxe Field Tripod for
the Alt/Az and Polar positions. A small screw driver is all
you need to install the kit.
The
Altitude scale is anything but precision on the Meade #884 Deluxe
Field Tripod. This only allow very rough, non-precision adjustment
of the altitude setting. You have to hold on to the telescope and
move the altitude rod up and down to change Latitude. You then tighten it
with the lock on the side. This is the altitude lock lever.
The Micro
Adjustment Modification kit, replaces the Latitude Adjustment Rod on the
Meade #884 tripod. All you need is to use a screw driver to remove
the original Latitude Adjustment Rod and replace it with the Micro Adjustment
Rod. The entire upgrade would take less than three minutes.
The Micro adjustment
kit allow precision leveling of the tripod top platform in the Alt/Az
home position. You turn the adjustment nut to raise of lower the platform.
The Micro adjustment
kit allow precision altitude adjustment Polar home position. The threaded
rod allows precision altitude adjustment. You turn the adjustment
nut to change the Latitude of the telescope.
The Micro
Adjustment Kit come with all the hardware needed and instruction. NO drilling
required. Only a small straight blade screw drive is need to install
the Micro Adjustment Kit.
Installation:
1) Remove the original Latitude rod by remove the screw with a small straght
blade screw driver.
2) Hold the long screw rod, with the end with the hole pointing up, remove
the lower wing nut, washer and nylon colar. Now you have the screw rod
with the wing nut and a washer close to the hole on the srew rod and the
washer. Insert the assembly into the "locking nut" (see the
picture on lower left),
3) Replace the screw in tripod and secure the screw rod with the screw
you just removed.
4) Take a look at the photo at lower left. Put the nylon collar, wash
and wing nut, back on the screw rod in the same order. You are done. Note:
1) The top wing nut is for leveling the top tripod platform.
2) The bottom wing nut is to adjust the Latitude in Polar home position.
3) Make sure the "locking" lever on the side to lock the original
Latitude rod is NOT tighten too much because this may damage the thread.
It is not really necessary to lock the screw rod. The weight of the telescope
will hold it in place securely.
